Whitney Nell Stewart is a historian of United States, with a focus on slavery and the American South. An award-winning author, her current book projects include Bitter Vines: Wine and Slavery in the United States, which explores how unfree labor planted the roots of the American wine industry, and The Story of Texas: History-Making at Varner-Hogg, which tells the history of the Lone Star State through a single plantation. A passionate public historian, she works with museums, historic sites, and organizations, including the National Park Service.
Stewart is an associate professor of history and faculty in the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History at the University of Texas at Dallas.
