Whitney Nell Stewart is a historian of the American South. An award-winning author, she is currently working on projects with topics ranging from unfree labor and the origins of American wine to Ima Hogg and plantation museums in twentieth-century Texas. She is a practicing public historian with experience in collections, curatorial, education, public programs, historic landmarks, and more.

Whitney is an associate professor of history and faculty in the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History at the University of Texas at Dallas. Starting in February, she will serve as the Deputy Executive Director of Collections and Education for Coastal Georgia Historical Society on St. Simons Island.
