Whitney Nell Stewart is a historian of the American South. An award-winning author, she is currently working on projects with topics ranging from unfree labor and the origins of American wine to Ima Hogg and plantation museums in twentieth-century Texas. She is a practicing public historian with experience in collections, curatorial, education, public programs, historic landmarks, and more.

After receiving her PhD in History from Rice University in 2017, Whitney taught at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she attained tenure in 2024. She is now Director of Collections and Education at Coastal Georgia Historical Society at St. Simons Island, where she oversees all mission-related activities and leads a team of dedicated public historians.
